OUR DIRECTION FOR MORE RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION

MEASURE. REDUCE. REPORT.

Sustainability is a direction we actively work towards — not a promise that every ideal solution will be possible on every production.

Film sets operate under real constraints: safety, schedule, location conditions, availability, budget and creative requirements. These practical realities may sometimes limit what can be implemented. Our commitment is to identify the most responsible workable option, measure what can reasonably be measured, document our decisions and improve from one production to the next.

1. MEASURE

We establish a production sustainability baseline and collect relevant operational data throughout the project. Depending on scope, this can include:

  • Crew and supplier transport
  • Production vehicles, fuel, flights and accommodation
  • Studio, location and generator energy
  • Catering and drinking water
  • Materials, set construction and procurement
  • Waste streams, reuse and end-of-life outcomes

FilmCafe can support carbon measurement using the albert Carbon Calculator methodology and prepare production data for a Carbon Action Plan where applicable. Formal albert certification remains subject to the production’s eligibility, evidence requirements and albert’s independent approval.

2. REDUCE

Measurement informs the production plan. We prioritise interventions where they create meaningful improvement without compromising safety, schedule or creative delivery.

  • Refillable water systems, crew bottles and reusable cups
  • Reusable catering equipment, reduced packaging and accurate headcounts
  • Seasonal and locally sourced catering where feasible
  • Local crew and supplier sourcing
  • Shared transfers and consolidated unit movements
  • Electric, hybrid or efficient vehicles where operationally suitable
  • LED lighting, efficient equipment and grid or studio power before generators
  • Rental, reuse and repurposing before new purchasing
  • Recyclable, lower-impact and water-based construction materials where suitable
  • Planned reuse, storage, donation or responsible disposal after strike
  • Digital production documentation and controlled printing

Agreed measures are communicated to departments, suppliers and crew through production meetings, briefings and sustainability notes in the daily call sheet.

3. REPORT

At wrap, FilmCafe can prepare a concise production sustainability and ESG summary documenting the measures planned and implemented, available consumption and emissions data, waste and reuse outcomes, operational limitations and recommendations for the next production.

The objective is not to make unsupported green claims. It is to give producers, broadcasters, agencies and co-production partners a clear record of what was measured, what was changed and what could be improved.

PRACTICAL REALITY COMES FIRST

Not every preferred solution is available at every Hungarian location. Sustainability never overrides safety, legal obligations, production continuity or the creative requirements of the project. Where the ideal option is not feasible, we document the reason and select the most responsible workable alternative.

We do not claim that any production can be entirely impact-free. We aim to make better-informed choices wherever the realities of the shoot allow — and to be transparent when they do not.

Our sustainability and ESG measurement support is included in FilmCafe’s production management service without an additional FilmCafe service fee. Any external certification, specialist supplier or third-party cost is identified separately and agreed in advance.

OUR WORKING PRINCIPLES FOR FAIR, SAFE AND ACCESSIBLE PRODUCTIONS

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & ACCESSIBILITY

DEIA is a practical working direction for FilmCafe — a commitment to treat people fairly, remove avoidable barriers and create a respectful production environment.

Every production has different creative, operational, safety, location, schedule and budget requirements. We therefore do not promise fixed quotas or identical solutions on every project. We commit to making reasonable, workable choices within the circumstances of each production and to discussing limitations openly.

1. FAIR ACCESS TO WORK

  • We describe roles and responsibilities as clearly as the production allows.
  • We consider people on the basis of relevant skills, experience, availability and the genuine requirements of the role.
  • Where practical, we widen the search beyond our usual professional networks.
  • Rates, responsibilities and working expectations are agreed as clearly as possible before engagement.

2. A RESPECTFUL WORKPLACE

  • Bullying, harassment, discrimination and humiliating behaviour are not accepted.
  • We expect professional communication and respect for personal dignity, names, identities and boundaries.
  • Relevant conduct and safety expectations can be included in crew briefings and production information.
  • Concerns may be raised with the FilmCafe producer or designated production contact and will be handled as discreetly, promptly and fairly as the circumstances allow.

3. REASONABLE ACCESSIBILITY

  • Crew, cast and contributors may tell us voluntarily about access requirements relevant to their work.
  • We will consider reasonable adjustments such as accessible communication, scheduling, workspace or practical support where feasible.
  • We avoid collecting or sharing unnecessary personal or medical information.
  • Where a requested adjustment cannot be delivered safely or practically, we aim to explain the constraint and explore a workable alternative.

4. PRACTICAL INCLUSION ON SET

  • We use clear, respectful production communication.
  • Dietary, cultural and religious requirements are considered when communicated in advance and reasonably achievable.
  • Facilities, transport and working arrangements are reviewed against the needs and realities of the shoot.
  • We encourage department heads and suppliers working with us to follow the same professional standards.

WHAT THIS COMMITMENT MEANS

This is a framework for responsible decision-making, not a claim that FilmCafe can eliminate every barrier or guarantee a particular demographic outcome. Safety, applicable law, safeguarding, role requirements and production feasibility remain essential. Our responsibility is to listen, act where we reasonably can, document important decisions when appropriate and improve our practice from one production to the next.

No one is expected to disclose personal information that is not necessary for their work. Requests and concerns are considered individually, respectfully and on a need-to-know basis.

CLEAR EXPECTATIONS. SAFE REPORTING. RESPONSIBLE ACTION.

RESPECT AT WORK & ANTI-HARASSMENT POLICY

FilmCafe is committed to a professional production environment in which everyone is treated with dignity, regardless of role, seniority, employment status or length of engagement.

This policy applies to FilmCafe employees, freelancers, cast, crew, trainees, volunteers, suppliers, visitors and representatives working on or in connection with a FilmCafe-managed production. It covers the workplace, sets, locations, production offices, accommodation, transport, work-related events and digital communication.

1. EXPECTED CONDUCT

  • Communicate professionally and respect personal dignity, boundaries and privacy.
  • Give instructions, feedback and criticism without humiliation, intimidation or threats.
  • Do not use seniority, influence or access to work to pressure, silence or exploit another person.
  • Intervene safely or report concerns when inappropriate conduct is witnessed.

2. CONDUCT WE DO NOT ACCEPT

  • Bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, racism or degrading behaviour.
  • Unwanted sexual attention, touching, advances, messages, images or comments.
  • Offensive jokes, repeated personal remarks, deliberate exclusion, shouting, threats or misuse of authority.
  • Retaliation, victimisation or disadvantage against anyone who raises a concern or participates in good faith in a review.

A single serious incident may breach this policy. Conduct described as humour, banter, creative pressure or customary industry behaviour may still be unacceptable.

3. MANDATORY PRE-PRODUCTION BRIEFING

Before principal photography, FilmCafe holds a mandatory Respect at Work and Anti-Harassment briefing for department heads. Attendance and acknowledgement of the policy are recorded.

  • Department heads are responsible for communicating the standards and reporting routes to their teams.
  • The briefing identifies the FilmCafe producer or designated production contact who can receive concerns.
  • Where FilmCafe issues or controls the relevant engagement documents, compliance with this policy is included in production agreements, crew contracts or deal memos.
  • Productions of sufficient length may include a reminder or mid-production check-in where practical.

4. RAISING A CONCERN

A concern may be raised verbally or in writing with the FilmCafe producer or the designated production contact identified at the briefing. A person may report conduct affecting them directly or conduct they have witnessed.

  • Immediate threats to safety should be reported at once to the appropriate on-set safety lead, emergency service or producer.
  • No one is required to confront the person whose conduct concerns them before making a report.
  • Reports should contain the available facts, but a concern will not be rejected merely because every detail or item of evidence is not yet available.

5. HOW WE RESPOND

  • We listen without prejudging the outcome and assess immediate safety or safeguarding needs.
  • Information is shared only with people who reasonably need it to assess or address the matter.
  • Those involved are given a fair opportunity to provide relevant information.
  • Where appropriate and within FilmCafe’s authority, proportionate measures may include guidance, a formal warning, changed working arrangements, removal from the production or referral to the contracting employer, client, authorities or specialist support.

FilmCafe does not promise absolute confidentiality, a particular outcome or a fixed timetable. Legal duties, immediate safety, safeguarding and the rights of those involved may require information to be shared or external assistance to be sought.

RESPONSIBILITY AND SCOPE

Everyone working on a production shares responsibility for maintaining respectful standards. FilmCafe will act within its contractual authority and the circumstances of the project. Where another company is the direct employer or controls the relevant workplace decision, FilmCafe will raise the matter with that organisation and support an appropriate response where reasonably possible.

A good-faith report will not in itself result in retaliation or disadvantage from FilmCafe. Knowingly false or malicious allegations may themselves be addressed under this policy; a concern that is not substantiated is not automatically false or malicious.

PLAN. BRIEF. WORK SAFELY. RESPOND.

PRODUCTION HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

FilmCafe plans and manages productions with the objective of preventing injury and ill health while delivering the creative and operational requirements of the project.

Health and safety is a shared responsibility. This policy applies to FilmCafe employees, freelancers, cast, crew, trainees, suppliers, visitors and others working on or affected by a FilmCafe-managed production. We follow applicable Hungarian requirements, location and studio rules, and agreed client standards.

1. RISK-BASED PLANNING

  • Production risks are identified and assessed before relevant work begins, with controls proportionate to the activity.
  • Assessments are reviewed when the location, schedule, method, equipment, weather or other material conditions change.
  • Responsibilities, emergency arrangements and escalation routes are defined for the production.
  • Where required by law, contract or the level of risk, FilmCafe engages an appropriately qualified health and safety professional.

2. BRIEFING AND COMMUNICATION

  • Department heads receive the relevant production safety information before work under their control begins.
  • Departments communicate task-specific controls to their teams and confirm that suitable personnel, equipment and methods are available.
  • Relevant hazards, emergency contacts and operational restrictions are included in call sheets, safety notes, inductions or on-set briefings as appropriate.
  • Safety information is updated when circumstances materially change.

3. SPECIALIST AND HIGH-RISK WORK

Activities such as stunts, special effects, weapons, vehicles, work at height, water, fire, electricity, animals, drones, construction, hazardous substances or challenging environments require specific planning and competent supervision.

  • Only suitably competent and authorised people may undertake specialist tasks.
  • Required permits, exclusion zones, protective equipment, rescue arrangements and technical checks are established before the activity.
  • Specialist advice may be provided by appropriately qualified external health and safety, medical, fire, stunt, marine or other technical professionals selected for the particular risk.

4. FITNESS, FATIGUE AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Schedules and unit movements are planned with reasonable attention to rest, travel, workload and foreseeable fatigue.
  • Heat, cold, severe weather, remote locations, night work and other environmental conditions are assessed and managed.
  • Anyone whose ability to work safely may be affected should inform the appropriate department head, production contact or medical professional.
  • Alcohol, illegal drugs or misuse of medication that creates a safety risk is not acceptable during work.

5. INCIDENTS, NEAR MISSES AND EMERGENCIES

  • Injuries, dangerous occurrences, near misses and material safety concerns must be reported promptly.
  • Immediate care, emergency response and scene control take priority.
  • Relevant incidents are documented, reviewed and escalated or reported externally where required.
  • Lessons and corrective actions are communicated to the people who need them before affected work resumes.

STOP WORK WHEN THERE IS IMMEDIATE DANGER

Anyone may pause and report work they reasonably believe presents an immediate and serious danger. Work resumes only when the concern has been assessed and appropriate controls are in place. Raising a genuine safety concern in good faith will not in itself result in retaliation from FilmCafe.

No production can be entirely free of risk. FilmCafe’s commitment is to identify foreseeable hazards, engage competent support where necessary, apply proportionate controls and respond responsibly when conditions change. This public statement does not replace production-specific risk assessments, method statements, contracts or legally required professional advice.
