The Hungarian National Asset Management Inc. (MNV) has officially announced a call for applications for the position of Chairperson and CEO of the National Film Institute (NFI). This leadership change comes during a period of transition and a temporary suspension of several film industry grants.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
The incoming CEO will be responsible for the institute’s strategic management, the development of the Hungarian film industry’s support system, and the strengthening of both domestic and international professional relationships.
Candidates must meet several strict criteria, including:
- A higher education degree.
- At least five years of experience in the film industry and leadership roles.
- Professional-level English proficiency.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Hungarian film industry.
Background of the Transition
The search for new leadership follows a significant reshuffle. Government Commissioner Ervin Nagy recently announced the dismissal of the previous board, including Chairperson Csaba Káel. Until a permanent leader is selected, an interim board is ensuring the continuity of operations.
Current Status of Film Funding
The NFI is currently working through a backlog of applications via temporary decision-making committees. However, since July 24, 2026, previous grant schemes — ranging from screenplay development to full production — have been temporarily suspended.
Deadlines
Interested candidates have until September 14, 2026 to submit their applications. The final decision will be made by the MNV board based on the recommendations of an evaluation committee.
