On 3 September 2026, Tarr Zoltán, Minister responsible for Social Relations and Culture, announced the appointment of film producer Viktória Petrányi as Ministerial Commissioner responsible for Hungarian film reform. The appointment took effect on the same day.
Petrányi has more than two decades of experience in Hungarian and international film production. In 2003, she co-founded Proton Cinema with director Kornél Mundruczó. She has worked as a producer on several Hungarian feature films and international co-productions, and Proton Cinema has also provided production services for international productions in Hungary.
Her Responsibilities
According to Tarr Zoltán’s announcement, Petrányi’s responsibilities include:
- coordinating measures required for the renewal of the Hungarian film-support system;
- overseeing the review of the system’s operation and decision-making processes;
- participating in professional and broader stakeholder consultations concerning the renewal of the film industry;
- preparing and providing professional oversight of industry developments and reforms.
The appointment therefore concerns primarily the review and reform of the institutional and funding framework of Hungarian filmmaking, rather than the management of an individual production or film institution. The sources currently available do not provide a detailed timetable or specific individual reform measures beyond the responsibilities listed above.
